Sooner or later, I was going to have to write about that guy.
You all know who I'm talking about.
This guy
who grew up to be
this guy
Sigh. I try to avoid thinking about Mr. President on a daily basis but it seems that he always finds a way to share my brain (neuro-socialism, perhaps?)
Before we begin, if you're getting the feeling that I don't approve of this man... You are quite right. I didn't vote for him the first time, and I will remain consistent this election.
But LT, he's so cool and black and smart, and down with the people! Why don't you like him?
For one, non of the above is adequate criteria for being the leader of the free world.
But aside from that, let's really look at what this cool guy has done during his presidency thus far.
1. Upon entering the office, he backed his campaign pledge to close Guantanamo Bay. He ordered its closing within a year, even going so far as to ask other countries to accept prisoners. Of course, no one wanted to babysit terrorists. 3 1/2 years later, Gitmo is still open. Why? Oh, yeah. Well back in 2011, he reneged and placed restrictions on prisoner transfers and now states that he opposes terrorist actions so he won't allow Guantanamo to close.
2. Within the first two years, he appointed two women to the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. Two years prior to her appointment, Kagan had never argued a case before a court.
3. He repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell. (This actually relates to number six, because of military benefits.)
4. He instituted a massive (almost 40%) budget cut at NASA.
5. Gave a $527 million government loan to Solyndra, a energy start up that filed bankruptcy in 2011.
6. As a Senator, he claimed to support same-sex marriage. While running for POTUS, he declared that he supported civil unions but not same-sex marriage. A few weeks ago, he evolved at the dinner table, and now supports same-sex marriage. He became the first sitting president to do this.
7. Let's not forget the $800 million stimulus that totally ended the recession.
8. Cash For Clunkers
9. Raised the debt ceiling to $16.5 trillion, the highest in history, while budgeting for a $1.5 trillion annual deficit.
10. Highest unemployment rate in America since the Great Depression.
11. Signed legislation for healthcare reform, that calls for socialization of medicine and demands religious groups, persons and businesses violate their conscience and religious freedom. As of now, the largest religious legal action against the government is in play.
I haven't even touched on his foreign policy and I'd rather not. I'll save that awesomeness for later. But has anyone noticed anything interesting about all of the above. Aside from constantly changing his mind a lot and giving away money even though we obviously don't have money to give away? Oh yeah, his inexperience is glaring! His community organizing skills have not really come in handy like he (and those who voted for him) anticipated. We are no better as a nation after George W. Bush. In fact, we are worse, and yet our current Mr. President wants to hang out in DC for four more amazing years. How can anyone reasonably look at anything this guy has done and feel that he has done better for America as a world leader than his predecessor? (And honestly, not many folks liked Dubya.)
Wait a minute LT! He's a family man. He's not having affairs and illegitimate children like some other notable politicians, including Republicans!
I was unaware that treating your marriage like a legitimate marriage awarded you extra mulligans on your economic blunders as a president. I'll keep that in mind, even though no one seemed to care that George W. Bush respected the sanctity of marriage also.
So there you have it. I've had my say about Mr. President. Hopefully, now I don't have to think about him tomorrow.

Hopped over here from the bubble. So nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteAn an Illinois resident, keenly aware of how messed up our state is financially, it's no surprise to me that Obama is blowing money we just don't have. This is one of many reasons so many Illinoisans would never vote for him, save the city folk. Everyone here in Illinois knows we should never elect someone from our state to run anything national! Yikes.
Wait, I thought all black folks loved Mr. Obama?!! He cares about you, LT!
ReplyDeleteThe juxtaposition of the photos cracks me up!!! And, I try not to think about the guy, either!
Way to stereotype Leila! ;) I guess if I wanted all the free unicorn farts I could ever want or need, I'd love him.
ReplyDeleteSecond Chances, thank you for stopping by! I've been to Chicago twice; can't say I had a good time either occasion. I also can't say I've ever heard of a good politician coming out of there.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget his best friend, Cecile Richards! Planned Parenthood is no friend to black women and their babies.

ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed reading your thoughts! I didn't vote for President Obama either. Part of me wanted to love his story (father from Kenya, etc.) but his views on abortion and assorted other things held me back. I do understand why his being elected was so meaningful to many African Americans, and yet I wish that, at the end of the day, people would care more about some of his problematic views on things.
ReplyDeleteThanks for writing this. You make excellent points, with which I agree. I pray that the majority in this nation thinks like you in November.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was gonna pay my rent.
ReplyDeleteHAHA Beth! I'm waiting on my 40 acres and a mule ;)
ReplyDelete1) I love your blog
ReplyDelete2) thinking of that man gives me a stomach ache
that is all. :)
ok I lied (accidentally:))--- one more thing
ReplyDelete3) seems to me you are wise beyond your years. You're my age-ish and I am certainly no where near as educated and well-spoken. (I did just say "age-ish" after all. haha)
Yeah most of our politicians are in prison! The fact that one of them is in the white house? Rather concerning. Luckily we're far north and in a great diocese that far outweighs the ugliness of the city politics. Phew!
ReplyDeleteMary, I'm flattered. However, I'm just a precocious kid that's never grown up.
ReplyDeleteThanks LT! It is so very refreshing to read your thoughts and welcome to the Church!!
ReplyDeleteLove this blog
ReplyDeletei just really wanted to say! (i'm a friend of Leila's and am passing your blog address around now too) you are WAY more knowledgeable than i, so thank you!!! :)
ReplyDeletei don't want to be anonymous, but i still haven't figured out how to just put my name up.....?

did this work?
ReplyDeleteThis will be an interesting election year. I didn't vote for him the first time but oh boy, do I remember the celebrating that occurred outside my dorm room when he was elected. Much ado about nothing, I'm afraid.
ReplyDelete"I was unaware that treating your marriage like a legitimate marriage awarded you extra mulligans on your economic blunders as a president. I'll keep that in mind, even though no one seemed to care that George W. Bush respected the sanctity of marriage also."
ReplyDeleteNo, you don't understand.
What they mean is, "He's not having affairs and illegitimate children like, you know, some other famous Black men," which is what white liberals say when they try not to sound racist but actually are.
You probably knew that already. Never mind.
One other MAJOR factor concerning this President is the fact that he supports all forms of abortion at any stage of development.
ReplyDeleteAnon, you should read the followup "Should a Christian support Obama?"
